1. A Lawyer is NOT an Accountant.
We often find errors made by the CRA and expose areas within in your return’s to reduce your bottom line. Accountant’s focus full time on finding tax solutions.
2. Most Tax Matters Do Not Involve Tax Court.
With the exception of criminal tax matters, most tax problems are resolved administratively and do not even involve tax court. We rehabilitate our clients before things go that far.
3. Does Lawyer/Client Privilege Really Protect Me?
Having a lawyer does NOT mean that the CRA will not require financial disclosure. The CRA will require certain financial and personal disclosure before co-operating/negotiating. Even if you have a lawyer, in most cases they will have to provide the same financial information your accountant would.
4. Late Filing is NOT the Same as Voluntary Disclosure
If the CRA has requested that you file late returns this is not voluntary, meaning you do not qualify for Tax Amnesty. Why use a lawyer to simply file late tax returns?
5. Tax Amnesty applications can ALWAYS be made on a “no name” basis
